Talkin’ ‘Bout Practice

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 11:41 am

Good morning y’all, let me ask you something…

If you never played a game of football in your life and you were asked to play quarterback for the Rams in the NFL, how would you do?

Probably horrible, right?

Well, getting in shape (and staying in shape) is just like any sport. It takes practice to get better. You can’t expect to get on the field and throw like an all-pro immediately. It takes practice.

The tough task of going from pizza and ice cream to fish and green beans overnight doesn’t happen. You have to “practice” making better decisions.  **Side note, you do not have to eat only fish and green beans to be healthy (Check out some grill recipes HERE)

Your outcome is dictated by how well you practice.

Listen, your first couple of weeks or even months are probably not going to go “as planned” and might be downright ugly. But the more you practice, the better you get. Then over time, these better decisions become more natural because of your consistent practice.

And YES… even after you get good at it, you have to continue practicing (just like a sport, go Vikings). If not, your skills (which is your decision making) will go bad and you’ll have to start over.

Sorry kiddo, but that’s how it works.

Every day is practice.

Let’s have a great practice today even if Allen Iverson doesn’t want to!

Summer’s Almost Over

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 2:48 pm

Summer’s almost over…but until we can’t anymore, let’s put something on the grill.

You know I’m no fish fan, but I still like to find recipes for you guys

Grilled Salmon with Corn Relish

4 Anaheim chiles
Cooking spray
2 shucked ears of corn
1 cup diced tomato
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
6 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon salt, divided
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided
1 teaspoon ground cumin
4 (6-?ounce) skinless salmon fillets

Directions:
Prepare grill. Place chiles on grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 5 minutes on each side or until blackened.

Place chiles in a heavy-duty zip-loc plastic bag; seal. Let stand 5 minutes.

Peel chiles; cut in half lengthwise. Discard seeds and membranes.

Cut chiles into 1/4-inch strips.

Place corn on grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 10 minutes or until lightly browned, turning occasionally.

Cool slightly. Cut kernels from cobs.

Combine chiles, corn, tomato, cilantro, and juice; toss gently.

Add 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.

Combine remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, remaining 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and cumin, stirring well.

Rub spice mixture evenly over both sides of salmon. Place salmon on grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 4 minutes on each side or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork or until desired degree of doneness.

Serve with relish.

Clever Name For Dessert

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 2:19 pm

There is not much of anything more beautiful than these protein-packed, festive red, white and blue Independence Day cupsicles!?!?

We most certainly need a name for them, so leave your thoughts in the comments.

These jokers are so simple to make, with a smooth, decadent, creamy center layer, will make you think you’re cheating!

We got this recipe from the guys over at Jaylab Pro, they say you’ve got to make each layer individually, enjoy!

Red layer:

1 cup fresh, rinsed, hulled Strawberries

3 dried, unsweetened Dates

White layer:

1-6 oz. container of Plain Greek Yogurt

1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder

¼ cup Unsweetened Almond Milk

Blue layer:

¾ cup washed Blackberries

¼ cup washed Blueberries

3 dried, unsweetened dates

**Reserve an additional 3/4 cup of blueberries to top the dessert cups.

Blend the ingredients for each layer with a blender or Bullet separately.  Carefully spoon each layer equally into 3 clear cups, starting with the red berry, then the (white) cream, and lastly top with the blue layer.  Fill to the top of the cup with the blueberries.

The amounts listed above will make 3 cups or servings with each one coming in at about 150 calories.

Here are a couple of notes:

– You’ll want to use berries that are fresh, not frozen, to maintain the stability of each fruit layer.

– The dates are important to help stabilize each layer, so they will stay three separate layers, versus running all together and settling.

– Best bet is to make these a day or a few hours in advance, so the layers have a chance to really set in the fridge.

To Snack or Not

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 8:39 am

Has this ever happened to you?…

You’re at the office and the hunger pang sets in.

You have a couple choices: You can fight through the hunger OR you can have a small snack.

You weigh the pros and cons…

Maybe you think, if you don’t eat a snack, you you’ll be so hungry when lunch time comes that you will eat everything in sight…

Most of the time that is not the case!

What?!?!?!

I thought you were supposed to eat 5-6 small meals throughout your day, and drink protein shakes with every meal.”

Well, imaginary writer of the statement above, not necessarily. (protein is on sale with the coupon code MD28<-)

I’m not sure if you know this or not, but sometimes when you are doing things differently and making a change, things become a little bit uncomfortable.

Going from 3 donuts and a large Dr. Pepper for breakfast to 1 donut and a hard boiled egg will be a bit uncomfortable for a week or two, and then it will become your new normal.

We tend to get caught up in the moment that we don’t think about why we wanted to make the change in the first place, that reason we started this journey.

Think about that for a few minutes during your 5 minute wave of hunger and then get busy on something else. Once you get your mind occupied the hunger will subside.

And really, once you train your body when to eat, you’ll start to get hungry at those times instead.

There are many ways to get to the body you want, if you would like me to help you learn what works best for you set up a strategy session with me by filling out your info here on the contact form<<<——–

Trainer Approved Ice Cream

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 3:14 pm

The crew over at Jaylab Pro came up with a great recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream.  You should check it out if you have an ice cream maker.

But if you don’t have an ice cream maker then check out how I make it below.

Fill a gallon sized ziploc bag about halfway with ice. Get a smaller quart size ziploc bag and set aside, we will fill it with the next ingredients.

Blend together 1 cup of unsweetened chocolate cashew or almond milk, 1 serving of protein powder (I used vanilla), and 1 good sized teaspoon of the peanut butter.

Once blended pour it into the smaller baggie and seal it up. Place small bag in the large bag of ice (make sure the little bag is completely sealed shut) pour about ¼ cup of salt in to the ice bag (not the stuff your gonna eat), then seal that large bag shut and shake it around for 5-7 minutes. Then put it in the freezer for 15-30 minutes.

Minutes later you are eating guilt free ice cream; It’s over 20g of protein and near 5g fat.

Let me know what you think 🙂

Battle Against Fat Cells

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 10:39 am

As a fitness professional, you know I’ll never promise you a pill is going to be the answer to that “jiggle in your wiggle.” If you want abs you’re going to have to work for them.

BUT…

There is some very promising research out there in regards to a dietary supplement you’ve probably been hearing a lot about.

Yes, I’m talking about Essential Fatty Acids. You probably have heard them called something like Fish Oil pills.

How’s this for good news?!

*University of Georgia researchers have found something pretty amazing about Essential Fatty Acid supplements containing DHA. Get this: They actually help STOP the conversion of pre-fat cells into fat cells by causing them to die out before they can mature.

Once a pre-fat cell becomes a fat cell, well, there’s no turning back. You’ve got that fat cell for life. Imagine, actually decreasing the accumulation of fat by taking an Essential Fatty Acid supplement containing DHA!

I prefer Omega Icon from Jaylab Pro because they use Krill Oil. It’s been found to be a superior source of Essential Fatty Acids containing DHA.

If you’re looking to accelerate your fat loss results than I really recommend you go with Jaylab Pro’s Omega Icon. You can get it here <—-

Yo Omega Icon is NOT a miracle solution. You will need sound nutrition and exercise. BUT, it’s definitely, a supplement with powerful fat loss properties.

If you’d like my help in building a body that you are happy with post a comment or click Contact Tye and we’ll discuss.

Avoid Holiday Flub

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 4:43 pm

I’m actually on a couple of fitness newsletters as it helps me keep up with what’s working and what’s happening in the industry.

Not sure about you, but I’m starting to get slammed with challenges like the “2 Inches on your Arm by Christmas” and “Get As Lean As Possible Before the New Year” mumbo jumbo.

Don’t get me wrong, Holiday Weight Gain BITES.

holiday survive

Not only are you unable to fit in your clothes comfortably, but people are much more tired and cranky too.

Not that getting ripped and lean is bad, buuuut on the list of priorities for my crew 6 packs are not in the top 3, 4, or 5 for that matter.

For myself and the 40+ crowd here at TBT, it is all about life strength.

We are all about being able to lift every serving dish during the holidays and chase the kids while they’re all geeked up on sugar.

We know it’s quite typical for other people to put on their “winter coat” during the holiday season, right?

Well that’s so not going to be you!

survive

You’re a Tyetan and I’ve got you covered with what to do at all the holiday parties you’ll be attending. You know you’re going to go, I know you’re going to go, so lets figure out how to make it work for us.

1-  DO NOT GO TO HOLIDAY PARITES HUNGRY– put a little something in your belly, mainly protein. If you’re not starvin’ like poor proverbial Marvin you’re not likely to eat the entire bread basket and all the hors d’oeuvres as well as yours and your neighbor’s entree.

2-  DO NOT DRINK LIKE A FISH– now I would never tell anyone to not drink at any get-together or party, but you just cannot get hammered, capiche? Cool cool. Just nurse a glass of wine or 2 all night and be sure and get some water in too.

3-  DO NOT EAT TOO MANY SWEET TREATS– if you think  Im going to say don’t have any, you have lost your ever loving mind. Get your dessert on!

BUUUUUUUUUT and you must follow this big but so you don’t have one (did you see what I did there), but check out the whole spread and have just the 1 or 2 treats that look like they would rock your socks off.

4-  DO NOT SKIP YOUR WORKOUTS– the best way to earn the previous 3 tips is to get your workouts in. If you are busy, like most of us this time of year you can still get a 20 minute workout in at home using bodyweight or bands. You could walk briskly while shopping and carry everything instead of using a cart, or whatever, just lift something heavy and get out of breath.

I can totally help you with that too. As a matter of fact…

Pushup Fundraiser

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 12:36 pm

We’re hosting a fundraising event for our neighbor Darlene on August 19th here at Training By Tye. Darlene was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma PNET back in January.

Last year she was a regular kid doing regular kid things and in matter of a few weeks everything in her world shifted.

You can read her whole story here <====18193452_1345822368845684_7069373864906711530_o

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you about medical bills; a few months ago her family hosted a fundraiser at their business, Kings Brewing Co., and we are eager to help them with another.

We’re going to do what Tyetans do best and workout to raise money for her family to help take some of the pressure off of the family who shoulder this enormous responsibility.

We will be collecting donations in the form of pledges for pushups (or squats). To participate just call or email us to get a pledge form and then begin asking your friends and family to pledge money for each pushup (or squat) you do in one minute. Then on Saturday August 19th at 9a invite your sponsors to watch you do your pushups for 1 minute to find out your donation amount. That’s it.

It will be a fun event in a great giving atmosphere. There will be light refreshments as well as a silent auction where you can donate even more towards this awesome girl.

Pushup Fundraiser

So come out and show your support by completing as many pushups (or squats) as you can in 60 seconds. Each pushup is your gift for Team Darlene.

Speaking of gifts, the participant that raises the most will get a special TBT gift basket!

Each participant is encouraged to raise $100, but any amount will be of great help. For reference if you can do between 15-20 pushups or squats in a minute suggest a pledge of $1 per rep from about 8-12 sponsors.

team darlene

If pushups and squats aren’t your thing then give your gift directly on the website and in the message box please include #TBTforDarlene so we can see how many supporters came from this event.

Didn’t read the whole thing, here are the basics:

  • Pushup/Squat challenge to raise funds for Darlene August 19th 9a
  • Call 909-360-1779 or email admin@TrainingByTye.com to get a pledge form
  • Get pledges per pushup (or squat) then come down to the studio and participate for 1 minute to earn pledged funds
  • Stay for the silent auction
  • Do something great for someone else and feel awesome
  • If you don’t want to do any exercise then give your gift directly and in the message box include #TBTforDarlene

Thanks for your support and we’ll see you at the studio.

SNEAK PEAK

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thyre @ 5:44 am

First weekend of March we announced the winners of our last challenge, the team winners were separated by 1 point.

Those kids as individuals did what they could, but it was still a group effort. One way for them to earn points was to “Level Up”, so that was only on them.
Team Win Shirt
Next month we’ll run another challenge, but this time it’s all about YOU!

We’re going to run our 28 Day FITRANX LEVEL UP Fitness Challenge. You’re going to take a FITNESS TEST at the end of the 28 Days to see how you do.

Every single ounce of effort and time you put in and invest will be well worth it at the end and then some.

Sound like something you’d be interested in being a part of??

Cool, check back next week and I’ll give you a more info when we get closer to the start.

In the meantime, I’m going to try and get some reading done this week for a challenge I’m in.  A lot of people read online, I like to hold the book when I’m reading it.

So I went to Barnes and Noble and asked the sales woman where the self-help section was, but she told me, that would defeat the purpose.

Seriously, that was funny right? Haha I say yes.

We’ll catch you next week. Make it a great day!
